You Say it’s Your Birthday? It’s Our Birthday Too!
Posted by Dala on Sunday Sep 21, 2008 Under BirthdayIt’s only fitting that this site begins today, since September 21st has proven to be a day when great things happen; not that many years ago, my daughter was born on this date. Ever since, she has been a shining light in my life and a source of constant inspiration and amazement. I have always truly loved music, but with her arrival I began to listen in a new way, trying to figure out what I could play to help develop her own love of music. I realized that there was no need to rush out and get any “children’s music”, as I already owned plenty of music that a child could enjoy. With that simple fact as inspiration, I hope this site can assist other parents to discover new songs that might help them enrich their own children’s love of music.
So, without further ado, we’ll start things off with some birthday songs for the birthday girl.
“Birthday” by The Beatles
From the album The Beatles, also known as “The White Album”
“Birthday” lyrics
There are a number of “Beatles for little people” collections out there; why anyone would buy them over the original is beyond me. They are one of the most kid friendly bands ever, so all the reinterpretations are just cheap imitations.
“Happy Birthday” by Curtis Knight & Jimi Hendrix
From the compilation Flashing
“Happy Birthday” lyrics
This is an early song featuring Jimi Hendrix, recorded before he became famous. It was also used as the main sample in the Beastie Boys song “Jimmy James.”
“Happy Birthday” by New Kids on the Block
From the album Step By Step
“Happy Birthday” lyrics
Everyone’s favorite boy band from Boston delivers a smooth birthday ballad.
“Birthday” by The Bird and the Bee
From the album One Too Many Hearts
“Birthday” lyrics
This is the newest song of the bunch, a nice bit of indie pop.
“Happy Birthday, Lisa” by Leon Kompowski and Bart Simpson
From the compilation Songs in the Key of Springfield
“Happy Birthday, Lisa” lyrics
Of course plenty of names could substitute for “Lisa” and still work…well, maybe not Bartholomew. Leon’s speaking voice was supplied by Michael Jackson, but a voice double was used for this song.
“Happy Birthday to You”
Ok, this one is strictly for Hannah.
